Send Senator Marco Rubio a Message.

Tell Senator Rubio to withdraw S. 670, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2019, which would force people to set their clocks to the wrong time year-round. Eastern Standard Time is the mean solar time of 75° west, which runs through the Bahamas. All of Florida is west of that, and Rubio wants to use the mean solar time of 60° west, year-round. That runs between St. Lucia and Barbados. When Eastern Standard Time is observed, the clocks in the Florida State Capitol are 37 minutes and 8 seconds ahead of the mean solar time for their location, and when Eastern Daylight Saving Time is observed, they are 1 hour, 37 minutes and 8 seconds ahead of it. Part of Florida belongs on Central Standard Time year-round, and part belongs on Eastern Standard Time year-round. (The boundary actually belongs at 82.5° west, but that runs right through TAMPA, so they TAMPERED with it.)

Ending the annual clock changes is an excellent idea, but the honest time, closely approximating mean solar time, should be observed. Politicians should not impose the wrong time to favor one special interest group over another.

Facts are stubborn things.

The House of Representatives version, H.R. 1556, is sponsored by Rep. Vern Buchanan, of Florida’s 16th Congressional District, and co-sponsored by Rep. Michael Waltz of the 6th District, Rep. Bill Posey of the 8th District, Rep. Darren Soto of the 9th District, Rep. W. Gregory Steube of the 17th District, Rep. Francis Rooney of the 19th District, and Rep. Alcee L. Hastings of the 20th District.

If you live in Florida, you can reach Senator Rubio through the contact form on https://www.rubio.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact. Please tell him his staff should answer the telephone, 1-202-224-3041, whether or not the caller will navigate menus. The Senator decided to configure the telephone system to reject calls when the caller refuses to navigate menus, but the caller can review the chessboard for ways to fight back against such abuse. Nobody should be forced to navigate menus or babble to robots to get help from a federal bureaucrat.

A Warning

Got money? There are legal limits on how much money you can donate to a candidate trying to defeat President Trump’s re-election bid, but is there a limit on how many copies of this book you can donate to public libraries in swing States? Wouldn’t that be tax-deductible?

Sorting rules: Entries are in alphabetical order by last name, and then given names. Only letters count, so that LaForest, Laforest and La Forest count the same. Then come the given names, in alphabetical order, which means Rose Mary and Rosemary are the same. However, this also places Josephine between Joseph I and Joseph J. Also, Smithson, Aaron is after Smith, Zeke. because Smithson is after Smith.

First name: (optional)
Last name: (required)
Birth date: (optional)

DIRECTIONS: Enter the last name. Anything other than letters will be ignored. The last name will be converted to ALL CAPS and compared to last names in the database, also similarly converted so that Laforest matches La Forest because both are converted to LAFOREST. Likewise, O’Brien, O'BRIEN, and Obrien will all be converted to OBRIEN for matching; hyphens and anything other than the 26 letters of the alphabet will be ignored.

Enter the first name the same way (optional). Again, it will be converted to ALL CAPS and anything other than letters is ignored.

Enter the date of birth, if desired. Enter the year, month and day in that order. To enter 24 July 1959 enter 19590724. You may enter the year alone, or the exact date.
