Zoning Destroys

Some single-family wooden homes would not be standing in the route of the next major hurricane. Somebody would have removed them and erected multi-family apartment buildings with concrete and steel. More housing would mean lower rents. It’s too bad zoning restrictions got into the way. The Florida Legislature can abolish all local zoning restrictions statewide. Racists don’t want minorities and immigrants moving in, but who owns the land? Consider the abundance of new jobs in demolition and construction, too. Lawmakers, here is your homework assignment, if it is not above your reading level: The Three Little Pigs.

The Coalition for Prisoners’ Rights

based in New Mexico, notes that Julie Jones, recent head of the Florida prison system, is going to New Mexico as the new Secretary of Corrections. She is being presented as a reformer. If you have thoughts to share about her performance in Florida, write to Coalition for Prisoners’ Rights, PO Box 1911, Santa Fe NM 87504.

About Those Abortion Bans

Sometimes the song, “Papa Don’t Preach” clashes with the parents who order their daughter to undergo an abortion. If she runs away, from New York to California, the cops will return her to her parents. Florida should become a safe haven for pregnant runaways. Florida law (316.2065(d)) requires her, if she is under 16, to wear a helmet while bicycling, resident or not. Florida law should also protect her, at her request, by placing her in a foster home and not telling her parents where. If they never get to see their grandchild, it serves them right.

Sorting rules: Entries are in alphabetical order by last name, and then given names. Only letters count, so that LaForest, Laforest and La Forest count the same. Then come the given names, in alphabetical order, which means Rose Mary and Rosemary are the same. However, this also places Josephine between Joseph I and Joseph J. Also, Smithson, Aaron is after Smith, Zeke. because Smithson is after Smith.

First name: (optional)
Last name: (required)
Birth date: (optional)

DIRECTIONS: Enter the last name. Anything other than letters will be ignored. The last name will be converted to ALL CAPS and compared to last names in the database, also similarly converted so that Laforest matches La Forest because both are converted to LAFOREST. Likewise, O’Brien, O'BRIEN, and Obrien will all be converted to OBRIEN for matching; hyphens and anything other than the 26 letters of the alphabet will be ignored.

Enter the first name the same way (optional). Again, it will be converted to ALL CAPS and anything other than letters is ignored.

Enter the date of birth, if desired. Enter the year, month and day in that order. To enter 24 July 1959 enter 19590724. You may enter the year alone, or the exact date.
